  7. As part of the ISE Eiffel 3 software development environment, EiffelStore
  8. provides a set of classes for writing Eiffel applications that need to handle
  9. persistent objects.  It handles interfacing with several standard DBMS
  10. (Oracle, Ingres, Versant) ensuring true portability of database applications.
  11. The library interface consists of two sets:  1.  General classes designed
  12. independent of any data management system used.  2.  Specific classes,
  13. referred to by general classes, bridging the application to selected data
  14. management systems.  Depending on generality and performance requirements and
  15. its dependence on external data formats, EiffelStore enable programming at any
  16. of three interface levels:  EiffelStore layer, Standard layer, and DBMS layer.
